Our approach to Learning and Teaching at St. Josephs is one where individual achievement is nurtured and valued. We are committed to providing stimulating, high quality teaching for learners in supported environments to prepare our students to reach their full potential and become life-long learners.
Knowing our students and how they learn
At St. Joseph’s we pride ourselves on the relationships we build with our students in order to best meet their learning needs. We value our ability to provide students with meaningful learning experiences using goal setting and feedback to build on current knowledge. We have high expectations at St. Joseph’s which allows us to cultivate capable learners who are critical and creative thinkers. We ensure student success is celebrated both in the classroom and at a whole school level.
Evidence based teaching practices
We use evidence based teaching practices to deliver the Victorian Curriculum in an integrated way. Our staff attend weekly professional learning communities in order to further develop and reassess our knowledge of contemporary teaching methods. We at St. Joseph’s pride ourselves on working collaboratively to ensure the learner is at the forefront of all that we do.
Individualised programs
Catering to the personal needs of students is our priority. We ensure all students have access to all learning experiences and that learning is differentiated to suit individual needs.
Assessment and Reporting
Regular assessments allow for student growth to be monitored closely and to direct our teaching to plan and target learning needs. Reporting occurs four times per year, once each term. Term one and three involve parent/teacher/student meetings to discuss student progress and areas for improvement. In Terms two and four, a written report is provided detailing student achievement in all areas of the curriculum. Student journals showcasing student work are also collated throughout the year.
