At St Joseph’s school we believe that every student has the right to feel safe and supported in all school environments.
St Joseph’s is a school which follows the SWPBS- School wide Positive Behaviour Supports for all students. SWPBS is a process for creating safer and more effective schools. It is a systems based approach to enhancing the capacity of schools to educate all students by developing research- based, school-wide classroom behaviour support systems. We have a wellbeing team of teachers as well as a team of student leaders and we are supported by our whole school data system.SWPBS included school-wide procedures and processes intended for all students and all staff in all settings. This approach encourages a safe, productive learning environment where teachers can teach and students can learn.
At St Joseph’s we have three school based expectations, Be Your Best, Help Others Succeed, Be Responsible.
To keep students on the expectations in a positive manner, we do the following when teaching about behaviour.
- Constantly teach and refer to our three school wide expectations.
- Talk to students with respect, using a positive calm voice.
- Provide praise and pre – correction.

At St Joseph’s we have a Pastoral Wellbeing Leader whose role is to work collaboratively to respond to the Wellbeing and pastoral care needs of students and families. They support classroom teachers, students and families to assist in the development and implementation of support practices to enhance all student’s learning. The leader also leads a Pastoral wellbeing team of both staff and students.
At St Joseph’s we are supported by a Family Liaison Officer who works collaboratively to respond to the Wellbeing and Pastoral Care needs of the students and families. They support classroom teachers, students and families to assist in the development and implementation of support practices to enhance all students.
At St Joseph’s we facilitate the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program. This program supports schools in promoting and modeling respect and equality and teaches students how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. This program supports the Victorian Curriculum in Health and Physical Education and Personal and Social Capabilities. Students learn to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others and establish and build a framework for positive relationships.
